Ink Junction – Flemington, New Jersey

As a coverup artist, Joe Matisa, owner of Ink Junction in Flemington, NJ, and Kiss of Ink in Trenton, NJ, is so focused on his clients and their coverup art, he makes charts. Progressive charts of color hues and skin tones. Charts showing how those factors correspond to certain colors when covering other colors. Charts that indicate primary colors, combinations, and what will accent one skin tone better than another. So Tatt2Away® was a natural adjunct. “I’m always interested in any additional tool I can incorporate into my overall coverup process, or now, potentially, removal process,” said Matisa.

He elected to train as one of the two technicians, despite his existing 80-hour per week schedule.  Matisa is the only artist who takes appointments, although two days each week he also takes walk-ins like the other artists.  On those days, people begin lining up for his art as early as 4:00 a.m.  “I don’t play around.  I’m nonstop,” said Matisa.  “It’s a big thing to try and meet the demand as much as possible.”

He grew up in his father’s shop in Trenton and assumed management of it at age 17.  He’s committed to his clients, his trade, his shop, his artists.  His energy is boundless and his focus intense. “I’m lucky,” he said.  “I get every type of client I could ever imagine.” One day he’ll see a gang-affiliated tattoo, another day a prison tattoo, and he sees bad tattoos every day.  He frequently works on large projects, often on people who were tattooed when they were younger but didn’t plan it out as well as they would have liked.  “Now there’s not only the opportunity to help cover up some of the easier stuff, but remove other pieces and get a new fresh slate on some bigger, open projects,” he said.

Tatt2Away exponentially expands what’s available to those clients.  “I have so many different coverups – scar coverups, old tattoos, poorly executed pieces, tattoos with entire dark sections.  Tatt2Away is another option for a client.  I want them to have as many as possible.”  But now he has options as well.  “In coverups, everything’s always been about finding the illusion. Some people’s coverups have to be extremely planned out and uniquely structured,” said Matisa.  “You’re trying to figure out a way to disguise it, a way to play off what’s already there.”

As a coverup specialist, he appreciates what Tatt2Away will do for him.  Said Matisa, “Sometimes you have something that’s workable but right under it, there’s a block that’s just like, ‘Wow. I could really have done without that 3 x 3 section of damn-near black,’ because then I’d have been able to turn this layout around without having to figure out a way to play off that.” With Tatt2Away, Joe Matisa got his wish.

Tatt2Away is a specific patented method with a registered trademark.  The patent covers multiple unique elements – one is the template – that contribute to its success.   If you visit a location claiming to be a certified Tatt2Away center and they fail to use the template in your procedure, leave (and please let us know).
